Warts

Warts are due to a viral infection, the Human Papilloma Virus.  ”Plantar” warts refers to warts on the bottom of the feet, however they can occur anywhere on the foot – even underneath toenails. Generally, warts resolve by themselves.  The time frame for this differs between patients and can be from a few months to a few years!  If the warts are growing, spreading or becoming painful, then treatment is advised. The diagnosis is very important in determining the best form of treatment. It is best to seek the advice of your podiatrist before undertaking any self-treatment. The options for treatment are many and varied. Because the problem is caused by a viral infection general immunity and health will also be assessed and sometimes a referral to a naturopath is beneficial. Glenroy Foot Clinic manages warts with a combination of at-home pharmacy acid application, podiatrist scalpel debridement and high strength chemical treatment.  Treatments generally need 5 visits for significant improvement, however it can vary between cases.

Warts are often misdiagnosed with corns, so any painful lesion on the foot should be examined by your podiatrist to ensure the correct treatment program.
