Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I see a podiatrist?
A podiatrist is a highly trained healthcare professional who specialises in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions related to the feet, ankles, and lower limbs. Here’s why you should consider seeing a podiatrist:
- Expert Care for Foot and Ankle Conditions: Podiatrists are experts in treating a wide range of conditions, including those caused by bone and joint disorders like arthritis, soft-tissue and muscular pathologies, and complications from neurological or circulatory diseases.
- Comprehensive Treatment for Foot Problems: From skin and nail disorders such as corns, calluses, and ingrown toenails, to foot injuries and infections, podiatrists are equipped to diagnose and treat a variety of issues that affect the lower limbs.
- Management of Chronic Conditions: If you have diabetes or other medical conditions, podiatrists are skilled in managing complications that affect the feet, preventing more serious health problems from developing.
- Pain Relief and Improved Mobility: Whether you’re dealing with foot pain, leg pain, or conditions like knee joint pain or shin splints, a podiatrist can provide effective treatments that help you move more comfortably.
- Your GP May Have Referred You: If your GP has suggested seeing a podiatrist, they likely believe you require specialised care for your feet or lower limbs. Podiatrists often work closely with GPs to provide comprehensive care for your overall health.
- Extensive Training and Experience: Before graduating, student podiatrists complete at least 1,500 hours of clinical practice, ensuring they are highly skilled and capable of providing expert care.
Do I need a referral to see a podiatrist?
Anyone can see a podiatrist without needing a referral. If you have private health insurance that covers podiatry services, you may be eligible for a rebate.
However, if you wish to claim through the Department of Veterans Affairs or the Enhanced Primary Care program (Medicare), you will need a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) to access these services.

What are your payment and cancellation policies?
Payment is due at the time of your appointment. If you are using third-party payment arrangements (NDIS, DVA, WorkCover, TAC, My Aged Care), please ensure these are confirmed in writing before your appointment.
We will send you a reminder about your appointment via text or phone call the day before. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. This helps us offer your appointment time to another patient.
Please note that failure to attend your appointment or a late cancellation may result in a late cancellation fee.
