ACHILLES TENDINOSIS
Are you feeling stiffness, pain, sharp shooting sensation in the back of your heel? Is this pain stopping you from walking and exercising?
The Achilles tendon starts at the calf muscle then runs down the back of the leg into the heel bone.
Achilles tendinosis is a straining/overuse of the Achilles tendon, which results in severe pain or swelling in the heel or lower leg.
The most common cause of Achilles tendinosis is overuse, caused by abnormal movement of the foot. Incorrect training and poorly supportive footwear are other common factors.
Your treatment of Achilles pain can vary depending on these factors and where in the tendon the injury has happened. In every case a thorough examination is required to pinpoint your injury and design a management plan specific for you.
