CHILDREN'S GROWING PAINS
Does your child or a child you know complain of pains in the feet, ankles, legs or knees?
Podiatrists don’t consider it “normal” for children to have growing pains. Often one or a number of the following factors can cause growing pains:
- Poor foot posture
- Tight muscles
- Poor footwear choices
- Growth plate problems
- Inefficient gait pattern
Your child’s appointment at the Glenroy Foot Clinic will include assessment of their foot type, gait pattern, joint ranges of motion, muscle lengths and footwear. They will then work with you and your child to develop a treatment plan to address your child’s specific foot or gait problem.
Heel Pain in Your Child
Is your child complaining of sore heels after a big day? Is their foot pain preventing them from enjoying being a kid?
Pain in the heel and ankle is a very common complaint of growing children. Because you want to keep them active, it is important to have these problems assessed and not just dismiss them as growing pains or being lazy.
One of the most common causes of heel and ankle pain is Sever’s disease, or traction calcaneal apophysitis. This problem usually involves an inflammation of the growth plate in the heel and is often contributed to by growth, tight muscles, high activity levels and poor foot and gait posture.
Glenroy Foot Clinic has a keen interest and specialised training to recognise and effectively manage the heel pain of your child. To keep them active, bring your child with foot pain in for effective treatment today.
